His Honour is currently sitting in the criminal division of the County Court circuit in Bendigo. This will be His Honour’s final circuit before he retires in September. His Honour has enjoyed a long and distinguished career having been admitted in 1980 and spending a few years practising as a solicitor before he went to the Bar. His Honour was appointed to the County Court in 2011. His Honour has a long history sitting in Bendigo on circuit both in the criminal division and the civil division of the County Court. His Honour is well respected and known for his kindness towards the court registry and staff those who appear in his court. This is an excellent opportunity to congratulate His Honour on his career and pass on our best wishes for his retirement. Drinks and nibbles will be provided. The venue is to be confirmed.

We are excited to announce that the Bendigo Law Association and Svenson Barristers are co-hosting a criminal law focused CPD event in Bendigo. The details of the event are as follows: Date: Friday 24 November 2023 – arrival at 8.30am with the presentations commencing at 9am. The event will conclude at 2pm. We note that this is a non-sitting day at the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court. Coffee and tea to be provided on arrival. Morning tea and lunch to be provided courtesy of Svenson Barristers. The presenters are Jim Shaw, Luke McPhie, Jack Kelly, Joh Ollquist, Caitrin Davis and Liam McAuliffe. Further details regarding the topics are included in the attached flyer. Venue: To be held in person in Bendigo. Venue to be confirmed shortly. The Bendigo Law Association Annual Dinner will be held on 3rd November 2023. This year the Dinner will be held at St Anne's Winery from 6.30 p.m. – 11.00 p.m. Attendance is complimentary for all BLA members (paid and first-year). All paid members have a complimentary attendance for one partner.  Any non-members or first-year member partners must pay a fee of $120 if they wish to attend.  Dinner and drinks are included.  Dress code for the event is formal/cocktail.  St Anne's Winery is located at 3 Belvoir Park Rd, Ravenswood. Due to the location of the venue, we have organised some coaches as a transport option. There are 2 pick-up locations (Central CBD in Sidney Myer Place and Kangaroo Flat train station). The bus will depart Sidney Myer Place at 6pm. There is only a limited number of tickets available for this transport option. The tickets are sold on a first in first served basis. Tickets are $15 per person and provide both to and from transportation. The Digital Library: resources for Victorian lawyers In this 1-hour training session we demonstrate the resources available in the Law Library’s Digital Library. Essential for practitioners who work remotely, hybrid, or outside of the CBD. The Digital Library is free for Victorian lawyers and contains hundreds of legal resources, with curated collections for efficient research. Key authoritative titles will be demonstrated, including databases, eBooks, journals, and reference material. This presentation qualifies for 1 CPD point under Professional Skills.
