Mentoring
The BLA invites members to participate in our new mentoring program. This program provides an opportunity for new lawyers to connect and engage with experienced lawyers.
We encourage all members from all practice areas to express their interest. The BLA will assist in matching mentors and mentees, and will attempt where possible to match practitioners who work within the same practice area.
The program will be self-guided, with mentors and their mentee(s) to determine the frequency and form of their engagement.
We ask that all participants in the program commit to ongoing engagement for 6 to 9 months to ensure that all mentees are able to benefit fully from the program. In the event a mentor is no longer available to continue, please inform the BLA as soon as possible.
Mentees
Mentees are encouraged to take a proactive role in the program by keeping all scheduled meetings with their mentor, being honest with their mentor and responding to feedback or advice received. Mentees should attend the first meeting with their mentor with an understanding of what they would like to achieve from the mentoring relationship.
Mentors
Mentors must be admitted to practice with a minimum of 5 years post admission experience.
Mentors are encouraged to set aside regular time with their mentee(s) (no less than one hour each month), provide their mentee(s) with opportunities to ask questions and provide honest feedback and advice. Information shared by a mentee to their mentor should be kept confidential.
Launch Event
The program will include an in-person launch event for all mentors and mentees (date TBC). Drinks and nibbles will be provided to all participants.
