UPCOMING CPD - CIVIL PROCEDURE IN THE MAGISTRATE'S COURT   The BLA is proud to present the Civil Procedure in the Magistrates Court CPD presented by Peter Cahill.     13 October 12pm - 1pm (1hr) Jury Pool Room - located level 2, Bendigo Law Courts Lunch provided   Peter Cahill is one of Bendigo's most experienced practitioners, and has set the highest standard of professionalism and courtesy for the local profession for decades. An Accredited Specialist in Commercial Litigation, Peter's in-depth knowledge of civil litigation matters matches his experience.  Peter has agreed to share some of his knowledge and insights with us during this CPD. Whether you practice regularly in civil litigation, or if you otherwise work in private practice and have a desire to better understand civil procedure, you should get some value from this session. This CPD aims to provide a brief overview of court practice and procedure, a look a Default Judgements, and a case study using the worked example of a Fencing Dispute. And perhaps most importantly this is another opportunity to take advantage of the knowledge transfer from one generation of lawyers to the next within the local profession.  We look forward to seeing you there. 

The Bendigo Law Association Annual Dinner will be held on Friday 20th November 2026.  The Dinner will be held at Waratah Wedding and Function Venue from 6.30 p.m.   This year John McPherson will be attending as a guest speaker at the Dinner.   John is well known as a founding member of Arnold Dallas McPherson Injury Lawyers. He has been a lawyer in Bendigo since 1992 when he returned after completing his law degree at the University of Melbourne. John is an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law and has extensive experience in WorkCover, TAC, Medical Negligence and other injury matters.    John has made a significant contribution to the Bendigo legal community. He has been involved with ARC Justice, CASA, Bendigo Access Employment and the BLA. He has also been a Law Institute of Victoria Councillor and contributed to various LIV Committees including as a member of the Specialisation Board. John was recently awarded a lifetime achievement award by the Australian Lawyer's Alliance. It would be difficult to find someone who has made a greater contribution to the legal profession.    Attendance is complimentary for all BLA members (paid and first-year). All paid members have a complimentary attendance for one partner.    Any first-year member partners must pay a fee of $125 if they wish to attend. There is a limited number of these tickets avaliable.    At this stage, there are no tickets avaliable for non-members, other than first year member partners.    Dinner and drinks are included.    Dress code for the event is formal/cocktail.    Waratah Wedding and Function Venue is located at 14 Waratah Road, Huntly VIC 3551.   Please ensure you include any dietary requirements when confirming your attendance.    Please RSVP by no later than 4.00 p.m. on Friday 30 October 2026.

The BLA welcomes all members to join us for our end of year celebration as we head into the festive season.   Please join us for bare foot bowls at the South Bendigo Bowls club on Thursday 3 December from 5:30pm onwards.   Non-members are welcome for a fee of $20 per person.   Nibbles to be provided. Attendees can purchase drinks directly from the bar at their own expense.   We look forward to seeing you all there as we round out the year!
