Members have requested some support around some of the financial aspects of running a law practice, as well as some practical guidance on the proposed changes to Discretionary Trusts and Capital Gains Tax which may impact both those running a practice and their clients.  This session will be an interactive presentation on some of the basics of setting up and running a law firm, and will also be a good opportunity to make sense of the new expected regulatory changes to trusts and CGT.  If you are running a small firm or considering setting up one, or if you act for clients who use trusts (e.g. Conveyancing, Commercial Matters, Estate Planning) then you should all find some value in this session.  This CPD will run over lunch, and as with all our CPD's in this series will be free to members with a light lunch provided.

We are delighted to welcome Emily Knowles, the Law Institute of Victoria’s Wellbeing Manager, registered organisational psychologist and legal professional from a previous life, as our presenter. Emily brings a unique perspective to lawyer wellbeing, combining her expertise as a psychologist with her lived experience as a former paralegal, law clerk and Supreme Court Judge’s Associate. Having experienced the profession from both sides, she understands the challenges lawyers face and offers practical, evidence-based insights that are relevant, relatable and immediately applicable. Whether you are at the beginning of your legal career or have been practising for many years, this seminar will provide valuable strategies to help you thrive—not just survive—in the legal profession.
